Real Depth without Sugarcoating
This was one of the more in-depth episodes I’ve been part of. Neil did a great job leading the conversation in a way that really serves his audience. What stood out was how open the conversation became around dyslexia and the real struggles behind it, making it something a lot of neurodivergent people will relate to. Porch Light
What I liked most about this episode was the tension. I loved that I didn’t just nod along, I pushed back. The whole standards versus expectations conversation really got under my skin in the best way. It forced me to look at how I treat people, what I demand from them, and what I demand from myself. What a great conversation
I really loved being a guest on Neil's show. Time well spent
When my mother told me to spend a few minutes in other people's shoes, I didn't think she was suggesting that I listen to a podcast. Actually, podcasts didn't exist back then, but if they did, listening to this show would have helped me understand how life circumstances and events shape people's personalities and how history combined with faith and perspective can point us into many different directions. Excellent experience as a Guest
Neal is an excellent host and his heart is evident in the easy, conversational way he hosts. He is easy to converse with and doesn’t shy away from difficult conversations, but does so in a graceful and kind way. His podcast is so needed to be able to see life from perspectives other than our own.

I said WHAT?
Neil got me to say things I wasn't expecting. He asked questions that dug deep into what I was trying to explain and pulled out revelations that were new to even me. Neil is a great guy!
I have listened to a LOT of podcasts, and Neil is one of the coolest/quirkiest/most unique. His superpower is that there is no one else like him on the planet, and listening to the show is a fun experience. You never know what you are going to get, but his truth and points are solid. A very personal interview
I found my conversation with Neal to be very personal and rewarding. He was able to get to the heart of the work we do with men and women coming from prison, and more important, why we do it. He also asked many insightful questions about what I can "my second chance novel," RUNNING AS FAST AS I CAN. Although fiction, it puts in story form the entire Good Samaritan Home story. I had a great time talking with Neal.

Great platform, even better host

One of my favorite podcast appearances...

Fresh Air!
This was one of my favorite podcasts I have been a guest on. It was deep, with a splash of humor. The host was a great interviewer and asked thoughtful questions. There’s a line from "The Shawshank Redemption" that has stuck with me for years.
Red asks:
“I mean, seriously, how often do you look at a man’s shoes?”
My answer?
"All the time."
Shoes are one of the first things I notice about people. Maybe that explains the collection. Maybe it explains the obsession.
But over time, that line came to mean something more.
Red’s point was that most people don’t notice.
"I want to notice."
Not just the shoes, but the person standing in them.
What have they walked through? What are they carrying? What don’t I know about their story?
That curiosity became "Other People’s Shoes".
More than 400 conversations later, I’m still just a guy with a microphone, a lot of questions, a serious love of shoes, and a desire to understand people better.
My faith, my family, and my completely reasonable obsession with the North Carolina Tar Heels are all a big part of who I am.
But at the heart of this show is something simple:
"You don’t have to agree with someone to understand them."
Sometimes understanding starts by simply noticing the person standing in the shoes.
