Tomorrow

Tomorrow

In this heartfelt episode of Other People's Shoes, I sit down with my good friend Mike Oppenheim from the podcast Coffin Talk. Mike has become a true friend in this podcasting space, and today he shares a deeply personal journey about anger, grief, and missing his son. He opens up about the invisible weight he carries—how, on the outside, you might not see the pain etched into his heart, but it's always there, shaping his days. Mike's story is a raw, emotional exploration of love, loss, and the resilience it takes to move forward. Through our conversation, we unpack the layers of his grief, understanding how it intertwines with hope and the belief in eventual reunion. As part of this episode, I wrote a poem titled Tomorrow, inspired by Mike's experience. It captures the enduring love of a father for his son, the ache of absence, and the unwavering hope for a reunion. Join me as I try on Mike's shoes.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, I'll think of you just like today,
With echoes of laughter that never fade away.
Your name is carved deep within my chest,
A sacred place where my heart finds rest.

Tomorrow, I'll stand by the door you once passed,
Holding onto memories I pray will last.
Not out of anger, not out of blame,
But love unshaken, still burning the same.

Tomorrow, I'll sit in the room made for you,
Though you've never seen it, it's always felt true.
Walls whispering stories we never got through,
Pillow untouched, sheets still neat,
But in my dreams, I hear your feet.

Tomorrow, I'll feel the ache in my chest,
Missing your voice, your smile, your jest.
Yet hope's gentle whisper calls out to say,
There will come our Reunion Day.

Tomorrow, I'll trace the stars in the sky,
Imagining you're under the same, close by.
Though miles may stretch and time may roam,
You’ve never left the heart you call home.

Tomorrow, I'll believe in the thread unseen,
Tied between hearts, strong and keen.
No distance can break, no silence can sway,
The love that grows stronger every day.

Tomorrow, I'll wait with arms open wide,
No shadow of anger, just warmth inside.
For deep down I know, come what may,
We’ll find each other on that bright Reunion Day.

Tomorrow, and every day until then,
I'll carry you softly, again and again.
Not with sorrow, not with dismay—
But with the hope of our tomorrow, lighting the way.

Tomorrow, and always, know this is true,
No words could measure how much I love you.
